Investing in fintech is hard wherever you are, but what if where you are is known for its economic and political turbulence?
My guest today is Sebastian Spena, the managing director of Galicia Ventures, the corporate VC unit of Argentinian financial services company Grupo Galicia.
We talk about the challenges involved in setting up a new venture unit and how crucial it was for them to get internal support early on. Spena also talks about how Argentina’s widely known economic troubles over the years threw up challenges but were actually a boost for startups, who needed to innovate to provide people with services to navigate the economic situation, how that situation is now changing, and more.
But first, I speak to GCV’s own data analyst Kal Andonov about the recently published yearly overview of GCV’s quarterly oil and gas reports, in which we talk about where oil and gas majors are putting their money, which cleantech sectors are getting large investments, and what the current political landscape may mean for the energy industry.
